I'm Stormykins, also known as Scarlett. For far too many years, I've been a member of the retro gaming community for "RS Classic". It's a point-and-click web-based medieval MMORPG developed by the Gower brothers in 2001 that was originally entirely free-to-play.
RS Classic is the predecessor of the widely popular fully 3D "RuneScape 2" from 2004, which is also, confusingly, called "Old School RuneScape" by its current owners.
Originally, I saw RS Classic on the UK TV network "Games Network" around 2003-2004, and was impressed by the fully explorable open world.
The official game was shut down in 2018, but many of us value the game for its unique mechanics (e.g. full loot emergent PvP with a "three round" combat system), as well as its retro charm, and simple bright graphics. Many people from the community have been involved in an open source preservation effort to accurately re-create the game after its current owners deemed it no longer profitable.
The history of the game, the way the players moulded it, and found unintentional mechanics for themselves has always interested me, since I was a child. It's always been a very player-driven game - content is enjoyed in ways that the original creators never expected.
