2001scape Player Killing guide

2001scape has some interesting mechanics that make PKing very different, notably worldwide PvP (excluding banks and Lumbridge), a vastly different Cooking and Magic skill, no level requirements for equipment, and unusual combat level formula.

I decided to put together this guide in the hope more people will create PKer accounts on 2001scape. Have fun!

Death mechanics

If you are marked with a skull (i.e. you already attacked a player), on death, you lose everything except the coins in your bank and your stats.

If you aren't skulled, you also keep your three most valuable items.

You will respawn in the safe zone in Lumbridge.

Training

Monsters never lose aggressiveness in 2001scape, so if you find a nice spot with aggressive baddies, you can be attacked to your heart's content... but watch out for other PKers.

Equipment

Everyone can wear the best gear at any level, which is full adamantite.

Nobody can smith adamantite 2-handed swords or kites hields yet, so your best setup is a battle axe or long sword with a mithril shield. Adamantite plate mail bodies are extremely expensive from the Champions Guild, so it's probably better to use less good body armour on a PKer account. The best cape is the blue one from the Champions Guild. The amulet of accuracy from the Imp Catcher quest is the best amulet.

Since runes and ammunition both need to be bought from stores, Ranger and Mage are probably the best starting classes to save a bit of initial GP cost. Magic is also extremely overpowered for dealing damage at low levels, but gradually becomes more of a "support" skill.

For ranged, the shortbow is the worst weapon. The longbow is more accurate and has a longer range. The crossbow is less accurate and has a shorter range but deals more damage.

Combat levels

Only PKer accounts can see other players' combat levels on right click.

Since there is a universal limit of 5 combat level difference (and 10 normal melee stat difference) to attack people, the ideal strategy is to train accounts for a variety of level brackets. Most people are quite low level! Check out the high scores to optimize your chances of finding people to kill.

Use balanced combat stats, you won't be able to attack other players within your level range if you get too crazy (the maximum stat difference is 10). Maybe get slightly higher attack, since everyone has armour.

Magic does not affect combat level. I recommend getting 25 in both magic types to be able to cast all of the spells without failing. You will want to use all boosts and weakens Magic provides, since they are usable inside melee combat, and give you a distinct advantage. Normal damage spells work like Ranged and can't be used in melee combat, only from a distance.

Ranged also does not effect combat level and is a "hidden gem", since damage scales with level (up to a maximum of 14 at 99). Ranged and Cooking are the most powerful skills in 2001scape, but you need good protection from melee attacks to take advantage of them.

The Prayer skill serves no purpose.

Boosts and healing

The best item boosts are the Draynor Manor cabbages (+2 defence) and strength potion (from the Apothecary in Varrock - bring a limpwurt root dropped by Hobgoblins and Giants, and red spider eggs from the Varrock Sewers).

The best food is Apple pie. Cookable food healing scales with cooking level, so on a PKer account you need to train cooking.

The best way to train cooking without getting combat XP (so you stay within the same combat bracket) is to buy flour and meat from the Port Sarim grocer and cook pies in Rimmington. Another option is to range chickens - if you stay behind the gate and don't let them attack you, your combat level won't increase.

Possible escape routes

You want to run away from other PKers? Great, the environment of 2001scape gives you many options if you're creative. The strategies are very similar to very deep Wilderness, since no Teleport spells exist, with the notable feature that running to a cabbage field works for healing at very low levels. 😉

Anti escapes

Be prepared to clear guards in order to attack players, since they will auto attack you, and their actions are prioritized. Even if they're easy to take down, they're a nuisance.

Use the Fear EvilMagic spell to prevent players from boxing NPCs to stay safe.

Learn to catch players! 😄
